A beautiful appearance is among the most important issues for women. When women are dissatisfied with their appearance, their self-confidence decreases and they may experience some problems in their relationships with the opposite sex.
Nowadays, genital aesthetics are gaining more and more place in our lives and developing day by day, both because women can act much more courageously and quickly when they have problems with their appearance that make them unhappy, and because of the rapid developments in the field of medicine. Having an aesthetically smooth genital area increases a woman's self-confidence and makes her feel much happier in her relationship with the opposite sex.
Before genital area aesthetics, a careful and realistic situation assessment should be made with the patient about expectations, and it should not be forgotten that expectations are personal. Photographs must be taken before and after the procedure, and great importance should be given to patient privacy while doing this. The post-surgical recovery period and what not to do should be discussed with the patient and the procedure should be timed well. Patients should be informed about the preparation process (such as waxing, cleaning, etc.) before the procedure, and detailed information about the post-surgical recovery process should be provided.
To briefly summarize the procedures performed in genital area aesthetics; Labiaplasty operations are among the most frequently performed surgical procedures. The labia minora (small lips) and labia majora (large lips) around the vagina can be repaired surgically. Situations such as a size difference in the labia on both sides, large or sagging labia may cause recurrent infections, painful sexual intercourse, or a bad appearance when wearing swimsuits, underwear, or tight clothing. Although the procedure time varies, it generally takes 30-50 minutes, and patients can be discharged on the same day or may require one-day hospitalization. The procedure does not damage the hymen and can be performed on patients who have not had sexual intercourse before.
Another frequently performed procedure is vaginoplasty. It is usually a surgery to repair the vaginal area after vaginal birth or aging. Despite the advantage of not having an incision when performed with laser treatment, we prefer surgical methods due to the high rate of tissue death called necrosis with the laser method. Inability to enjoy sexual intercourse as a result of vaginal enlargement is the most common reason for surgery. Not only does narrowing the vaginal entrance provide no benefit to the patient, as the advancing area of the vagina is still wide, but it may also cause the patient to suffer due to the narrow entrance area. During surgery, the vagina must be narrowed by making use of durable tissues called fascia. In addition, bladder or bowel prolapses that may occur due to birth or aging can be repaired surgically, which reduces the patient's pain, reduces the risk of infection, and provides good cosmetic results. Before vaginoplasty, a detailed examination must be performed to evaluate whether there is sagging in adjacent organs. Although the procedure time may vary, it generally takes about an hour, and patients are generally discharged the next day after a day of hospitalization with various recommendations.
Another genital plastic surgery is cliteroplasty and hudoplasty. The clitoris is an important region for sexual pleasure, created by the union of the labia minora (small lips) in the upper region. Hudoplasty is the procedure of removing excess skin tissue on the clitoris. Before the procedure, the patient should be informed in detail about the surgery. The clitoris is a very rich structure in terms of vessels and nerves, so care should be taken during and after surgery in terms of bleeding and hematoma formation due to bleeding. In addition, since the clitoris is very rich in nerves, the patient should be informed that there may be pain after cliteroplasty. Hudoplasty operations are performed especially frequently and accompany labiaplasty operations. The procedure takes approximately half an hour, and patients are discharged on the same day or stay in the hospital for one day.
Hymenoplasty (hymen surgery) is one of the most frequently performed operations in gynecology. Hymen is a structure located at the entrance of the vagina and can be torn due to reasons such as sexual intercourse and trauma. In addition, the hymen may rupture in surgical interventions performed for gynecological reasons (such as during biopsy to exclude uterine cancer). Women may want their hymen to be repaired for various reasons, especially for cultural reasons. Hymenoplasty can be performed in two ways: temporary and permanent. The determining factor in which type of hymenoplasty will be performed is when penetration is planned. Temporary hymenoplasty should be performed 3-7 days before penetration. In permanent hymenoplasty, there should be no penetration for at least 6 weeks after the procedure. Permanent hymenoplasty takes approximately half an hour, temporary hymenoplasty takes less time, and patients are generally discharged on the day of the procedure.
Another frequently performed procedure in genital aesthetics is filling methods. Filling methods provide fullness and provide good cosmetic results, especially in patients who are thin or have lost weight rapidly. The most frequently preferred method of filling methods is the lipid filling method, which is the injection of fat taken from the patient. Fat removal (liposuction) can be from various parts of the body, the abdominal area is most often preferred, a small amount of fat removal is sufficient. The patient's fat, obtained with special cannulas, is waited for a while, then the appropriate part is removed and injected into the genital area with special syringes. If sufficient fat cannot be obtained from the patient, the most commonly used artificial filler is hyaluronic acid. The disadvantages of hyaluronic acid are that its effect is short-lived (on average, it can be between six months and a year, depending on the patient's compliance with the recommendations) and that it is expensive, but it is the most important alternative for patients who cannot undergo liposuction due to the weakness of some of the patients who need fillers.
Genital aesthetic procedures are developing and becoming widespread day by day. It should not be forgotten that expectations and results are subjective, patients may have different expectations, and detailed information and ideas should be exchanged before the procedure. The timing of the procedure should be done very well, the patient should receive detailed information about what to do before and after the procedure and follow the recommendations. It should not be forgotten that these procedures require a different notion than other gynecological procedures.
